The Audio Input and Output Selection Dialog controls the Audio settings.

 

Local adds an extra Audio Input Channel, for an in-studio host or guest. The input is mixed with all the other channels, on the output the MIX-1 (or mix-minus) bus is heard.  If the Output is set to speakers, then you might want to check the “Mute Output when Microphone is ON” to avoid feedback of the microphone on the speakers.

Monitor adds a monitor-bus to monitor the channels, have a talk-back or monitor the main mix.  The input is used as a Talk-Back Microphone. The monitor-bus is routed to the output where the cue’d or talkback channel is heard, or else the main. If the Output is set to speakers in the same room as the input, then you might want to check the “Mute Output when Talkback is ON” to avoid feedback of the microphone on the speakers.

Main routes the mix-bus to a Main Audio output.

In the input selection lists you see not only the connected/installed audio devices, but also NDI sources. NDI is used for the audio connection between MX and the Luci Studio Instances, but you can also use it to route audio between PC’s or other NDI compatible devices.

The output selection list shows the connected/installed audio devices plus one NDI output channel (like NDI: MX Main out) that is created on selection. You can then select this NDI source in another NDI capable device or PC.
